International Women’s Day is taking place on 8 March 2017
People across the globe are being urged to ‘Be Bold for Change’ this International Women’s Day, by taking action to accelerate gender equality.
Taking place on 8 March 2017, International Women’s Day will see events held around the world by governments, charities, academic institutions, corporations and women’s networks. From music and comedy events through to workshops and lunches, all will call on people to challenge gender bias and help make a more inclusive, equal world for all.

While significant progress has been made in narrowing gender disparity in health and education, the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2016 suggests gender gaps in economic participation and political empowerment remain wide.
The report - which uses economic, education, health and political indicators to monitor gender equality progress across the globe - predicts the global gender gap will not close until 2186. That’s more than 50 years longer than it predicted in 2015, suggesting progress has slowed.
Michelle Cronin, Director of People, Finance and Infrastructure at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Thompsons has a long, proud history of representing victims of workplace discrimination. Unfortunately, far too many women still experience discrimination in Britain's workplaces and for this to still be an issue in the 21st century is simply unacceptable.
“It is shocking that economic parity between men and women is slowing down and that it may take up to 170 years for gender equality to become a reality.
“Through the tireless campaigning of people worldwide – not just on International Women’s Day but throughout the year – real and tangible progress can be made.
“We encourage everyone to ‘Be Bold for Change’ and take action. No woman should face gender discrimination in 2017.”
