This week celebrates both International Women's Day and the TUC Midlands Women at Work Week
As the spotlight falls on gender disparity and the issues facing working women this week, Thompsons Solicitors reaffirms its commitment to supporting female workers' rights.
On 8 March, International Women's Day will see a global call to #PressForProgress on accelerating gender parity, with a series of awareness-raising events and online activities planned by organisations, political parties and charities around the world.Â
Thompsons Solicitors is proud to represent women fighting discrimination, harassment and unfair treatment at work. We never act for employers or insurers and have always supported the trade union movement, sharing its belief that all workers should be treated equally and with respect.
As the UK's leading campaigning law firm and a proud supporter of working women's rights, we're delighted to see so much positive energy directed this week toward addressing gender inequality and will continue fighting for gender parity alongside trade unions.Clare Mellor, operations director and Executive Board member at Thompsons Solicitors
Clare Mellor, operations director and Executive Board member at Thompsons Solicitors, said: "We're celebrating 100 years since some British women got the vote but we've a long way to go until we achieve gender parity in this country. Too many working women still face an uphill struggle to access the same opportunities, resources and pay structure as their male colleagues. The World Economic Forum's 2017 Global Gender Gap Report suggests gender parity is more than 200 years away: that's unacceptable.
"As the UK's leading campaigning law firm and a proud supporter of working women's rights, we're delighted to see so much positive energy directed this week toward addressing gender inequality and will continue fighting for gender parity alongside trade unions."
This week we will run a series of commentaries outlining the issues many working women face, such as equal pay, sexual discrimination and unfair dismissal, and the support available to those who need it.
