Thompsons Solicitors is supporting spina bifida charity, Shine by sponsoring virtual balloons in its balloon race which takes place this month (July 2015).

Shine’s ‘Wheelchair Wonders’ virtual balloon race, which begins on 13 July and ends on 20 July, will involve more than 2,000 sponsored balloons. The money raised by the virtual balloon race will go towards helping children with spina bifida and their families to access support and information on how they can acquire and use wheelchairs.

Shine is a charity which works to improve the lives of people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, providing support services, occupational therapy and advice on how people living with the conditions can live as full a life as possible, including through enjoying sports and activities.

Spina bifida is a fault in the development of the spinal cord, where a gap is left in the spine causing damage to the nervous system and resulting in weakness or total paralysis of the legs. Spina bifida is usually identified before birth, however in some instances the condition is not detected.

Corrina Mottram, a clinical negligence solicitor based in Thompsons' Chelmsford office said: “We are privileged to be supporting Shine’s charitable balloon race this month by sponsoring balloons in the ‘Wheelchair Wonders’ race.

“Shine offers vital services, support and information to children and adults with spina bifida, helping them to lead a full and active life.

“We hope our donation will go some way in helping Shine to continue delivering its worthwhile services and we look forward to seeing whether one of Thompsons’ balloons will claim first place in the upcoming race!”
