Thompsons Solicitors is proud to support the TUC150 – Retrospect and Prospects conference on 1 June marking the 150th anniversary of the formation of the TUC in Manchester.

The conference, organised by North West TUC, brings together panels of leading academics, politicians, trade unionists and lawyers from across the Labour movement, including Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell MP.

The excellent programme will highlight the vital role of the TUC and trade unions in shaping politics, policy and legislation and through organising and industrial action.

Trade union lawyers Thompsons Solicitors are gearing up to support the Trade Union Congress (TUC)’s TUC150 – Retrospect and Prospects conference this summer.

Thompsons Solicitors has a specialist network of lawyers dedicated to trade union law, located across the country. Founded over 90 years ago with the aim of being the leading legal advisors to the trade union movement, Thompsons is proud to pledge its continuing commitment at the TUC’s conference on 1 June 2018.

The event, organised by TUC North West and Manchester Industrial Relations Society, will be supported by Thompsons and the University and College Union (UCU). It will celebrate the long and rich history of the trade union movement in the UK, reflecting on legal, industrial and political lessons from the past, and looking at what’s to come in the future of trade unionism.

Founded in 1868, the TUC brings together 50 member unions from across the UK. It works to represent its members as a united front and stand up for the nation’s working people.

Stephen Cavalier, Chief Executive of Thompsons Solicitors, will take part in the panel on ‘TUC Framing Laws and Changing Laws’ and said: “I’m delighted to be part of this event marking 150 years of the TUC in the city where it was founded. The excellent programme will highlight the vital role of the TUC and trade unions in shaping politics, policy and legislation and through organising and industrial action.”

Thompsons Solicitors was the first firm to set up a special employment rights unit in 1995 and continues to dedicate its efforts to the wider rights movement, standing in solidarity with campaigns for justice in the UK, and civil liberties and human rights movements around the world.
