Thompsons Solicitors sponsored Members’ Champion Award at this year’s RCM Annual Awards
Two midwives have both won a top midwifery prize at the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Annual Awards on Tuesday 8 March.
Jenny Brown, from Bolton/Pennine Acute NHS Hospitals Trust, and Ann Gillott, a midwife at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, jointly won the RCM Members’ Champion Award sponsored by Thompsons Solicitors.
As an RCM steward Jenny shows a positive and professional attitude, promoting the benefits of RCM membership. She speaks publically on behalf of midwives and the RCM to promote midwifery.
Jenny has organised many study days for members, all of which contribute to better care for mothers and babies at the Trust. Jenny was integral to good relations and communications with the Trust when maternity services were decommissioned on two sites.
Ann independently advises and represents members through a range of processes, and has supported and advised members’ on a number of issues, always willing to go the extra mile.
Additionally, Ann has introduced pension seminars for members and played a pivotal role providing information to members during the RCM’s pay campaign, organising meetings and walk arounds in order that RCM members were fully informed.
Both were presented with their awards at the Royal College of Midwives Annual Midwifery Awards at a ceremony in The Brewery, London. The ceremony was hosted by journalist and broadcaster Kate Silverton.
Stephen Cavalier, Chief Executive of Thompsons Solicitors said: “Workers in the NHS are under more pressure than ever, and activists in workplaces are essential so midwives know they are not alone and that the RCM is there to support them, with assistance from Thompsons if needed.
“We are delighted that we can play a part in having workplace reps like Jenny and Ann given the recognition they deserve.”
Cathy Warwick, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives, said: “This award celebrates the work of our workplace representatives and their value to the workplace and our members. In Jenny and Ann we have two wonderful examples of this. They never hesitate to find time for the RCM and our members. Both are truly an asset to their respective trusts, the profession and the RCM.”
