Former UNISON president to become brain injury charity patron
The UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF) has announced that former UNISON president, Maureen Le Marinel, is to become a UKABIF patron.
Maureen Le Marinel was elected as president of UNISON in 2013, and worked closely with the UKABIF during her term between July 2013 and July 2014. When Ms Le Marinel was UNISON president, she chose UKABIF as the union’s beneficiary charity, raising ￡16,000 during the course of the year.
Maureen Le Marinel, patron of UKABIF, said: "I am very proud and honoured to have been asked by UKABIF to become their First Patron. It is something that I never in a million years expected to be asked when I chose them for my Presidential charity when President of UNISON.
"Choosing UKABIF was a personal decision as my family has been affected by an acquired brain injury situation. I see this as an achievement not only for me but for my family, UNISON and all the union members and staff who assisted me throughout my presidential year in raising an enormous amount through donations.
"I look forward to working with the board of the charity and all their volunteers to raise awareness across the many areas where people are affected by acquired brain Injury."

UKABIF is a charity which campaigns to raise awareness of acquired brain injury. The charity launched the campaign ‘Life After Brain Injury’ which works towards improving rehabilitation services and support for victims of brain injury. It also runs workshops and annual conferences for individuals and community groups working to promote better understanding of all aspects of acquired brain injuries.
