Work-related illness
Lawyers acting for the widow of a former machine operator at Watney’s Brewery in Isleworth are in a desperate attempt to trace his former co-workers following his tragic death from the asbestos cancer mesothelioma in March 2006.
Peter Witney, of Feltham, Middlesex, was 70 years old when he died. He was exposed to asbestos during the course of his employment with Watney’s Brewery in Isleworth between 1976 and 1993. Working as a machine operator, he was regularly exposed to the asbestos lagged pipework which was disturbed as a result of repairs and maintenance work.
Mesothelioma
Mr Witney developed breathing problems in 2005 and was sent for a chest x-ray at Ashford Hospital. Over the following months he underwent various tests including CT scans and biopsies, which culminated in his diagnosis of mesothelioma in September 2005.
His widow Elizabeth explains: "It was such a shock when Peter was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Sadly his condition deteriorated dramatically and he died on 16 March 2006. Peter should have been my lifelong companion and no amount of compensation can bring him back."
