Michelle Miller was walking to work in Hackney when she was hit by a car.
A woman from Dagenham who suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a car has secured more than £287,000 in compensation.
Michelle Miller, a 49-year-old school administrator living in Dagenham but working in Hackney, was hit by a car driving on the wrong side of the road in February 2019. The driver – who was overtaking another vehicle - was later convicted of driving without due care and attention at Stratford Magistrates Court.
Ms Miller, who was on her way to work at Kingsmead Primary School in Hackney, London, sustained multiple life-changing injuries – both physical and psychological – as a result of the collision.
The 49-year-old suffered multiple life-changing injuries
Ms Miller said: "The accident has had a huge impact on my life. I now have a fear of speeding vehicles and I have lost the confidence to drive a car.
“I’ve also developed vertigo, which can impact my ability to sleep, and my mobility will never be the same. This one collision has been life-changing.”
Ms Miller contacted her union, UNISON, to help her make a legal claim. They were able to put her in touch with Thompsons Solicitors’ specialist personal injury legal team, and the case was settled out of court for the six-figure sum.
Although no amount of money can undo the ongoing pain and trauma our client is suffering as a result of the accident, we’re pleased that we could help her secure compensation that recognises what she has been through and provides her with ongoing financial security.
Kam Singh, personal injury specialist at Thompsons Solicitors.
Ms Miller added: "Thompsons was very professional and supportive, keeping me well-informed throughout my case – even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“They were able to bring in the right healthcare specialists to help with my claim. I can’t thank them enough.”
Kam Singh, from Thompsons Solicitors, who represented Ms Miller, said: “This was a horrible accident caused by a reckless driver with no regard for the safety of others.
“The ramifications for our client, both physically and mentally, have been huge.
“Although no amount of money can undo the ongoing pain and trauma our client is suffering as a result of the accident, we’re pleased that we could help her secure compensation that recognises what she has been through and provides her with ongoing financial security. As a member of the trade union, UNISON, there were no deductions made from the compensation, which would have been the case had she gone to a non-specialist high-street firm.”
