Cyclist involved in Road Accident
Leading trade union UNITE has secured compensation for a member from Plymouth, Devon of over £6000. The compensation was secured by UNITE’s free legal help scheme which is available to all union members.
The road traffic accident took place in December 2006. Stephen Marsh was riding his bicycle across a roundabout when a van, which was also travelling on the roundabout, collided with Mr Marsh. He was knocked up into the air and landed on the bonnet of the van which caused him to briefly be knocked unconscious. The van was being driven by an employee of Amicita UK Limited.
Mr Marsh explains: “I was immediately taken to the Accident and Emergency department at Derriford Hospital where x-rays were taken of my shoulder that was injured in the accident. I also had a laceration to my ear glued together. I had to take over two months off work as a result of my injuries and I had a course of physiotherapy.”
Ciaran McQuade who represented Mr Marsh explains “Injuries involving cyclists are an all too common event. These injuries can often result in serious injuries. Fortunately for Mr Marsh, he is a member of a leading trade union and he was therefore entitled to legal support to make his claim.”
